Half-man, half-bird woman has troubled life

This bird can look like holiday decorations, but it's really rare half-woman, half-male northern cardinal.

Scientists have long studied Gynandromorph rare in the wild for more than 40 days; most of the published observations cover only a day or so.

The bird was not subjected to any unusual agonistic behavior from other Cardinals.

Must be such hell inside that bird's skull all the time that it's too distracted to sing.

Mutation in general doesn't favor symmetry, even Calico cats aren't perfectly symmetrical. This just happens to be completely chance. Life's little jokes, as it were.

It looks rather nice, though sad if its combined genders make it end up lonely. I assume the female cardinals have no call either, like many female birds.
