As much as people hate this aircraft because of how expensive it is, there is a term economists use called "sunk costs". There comes a point where because of how much money has already been spent developing something, there is no reason to stop, even if it will continue to cost a lot of money. This is a perfect example, should they have had more realistic, cheaper goals when they set out designing this aircraft? Of course, but now that we've started should we stop? No. This thing is going to be the most expensive aircraft in history, but its also going to be one of the deadliest. Even though Congress and the Pentagon should be scolded for their wasteful ways, as of February 3, 2015 I fully support the continued development of the F-35.
