The city will be destroyed by fire or other natural disasters, and even strong buildings and other man-made structures, eventually crumble. The atmosphere can also recover, although some contaminants will stick around for a very long time.
Our pets probably will not be so good either, barely holding their own against wolves and other predators. On the positive side, the other remaining species - even those whose populations have been destroyed by human activities - can recover.

Without humans, this planet's existence would be pointless. It would be like a lump of clay sitting on a wheel with no one to mold it, like a bunch of canvas' and paints in a studio that nobody owns. It would be like Niagara Falls deep within a jungle, never discovered.

I don't know if we'd even be able to science our way out of it since so much of our biotechnology requires bacteria to do our work (to grow up proteins, to use their enzymes to manipulate DNA, etc.).

The planet would recover from the disaster we have caused to most every animal, plant, bird, etc. We have not taken care of our only life support system.
