This adorable image - in which the galaxy cluster SDSS J1038+4849 seems to be smiling at the camera - comes courtesy of the Hubble Space Telescope. It was spotted by Judy Schmidt, who submitted a version of the image to the Hubble's Hidden Treasures image processing competition, where anyone can sift through the Hubble's massive data pools to highlight hitherto ignored sights from the stars.

Hubble's 25th birthday is in April. Congratulations to ESA and NASA. Despite the inauspicious start with the incorrectly ground mirror, the subsequent cosmological discoveries made by this telescope have been incredible. The pictures of the Eagle Nebula with the Pillars of Creation and the images from the Ultra Deep Field of distant early evolved galaxies were truly amazing - the latter quintessentially illustrating the cosmological expansion of the universe. Next comes the James Web Space Telescope (JWST).
